The Smith in Midtown

The Smith, which first location is in the East Village, opened up a new branch in Midtown about a year ago and even one in the Upper West Side just last week. In comparison with the 11st street location, the Midtown space is huge and a true gem for this neighborhood. It has the same white tiles, green and clear water jugs, photo booth in the bathroom but it feels less crowded and more airy and spacious. When the weather is nice, they keep the windows open making it feel very inviting. Lucky for you the menu is pretty much the same, and I haven’t had to wait for a table. I love the Roasted Chicken Salad with Brie and Walnuts. It’s pretty large, a very memorable dish and comes in a chilled bowl. The Brussels Sprouts are also a great side dish and cooked to where it’s crisp on the edges and just soft enough with each bite. However, I’d skip the lobster roll here. It’s jacked with mayo, but the fries are some of the best. The Smith also has some of my favorite Mac ‘N Cheese. Although it should really be called Cheese ‘N Mac because there is really no shortage of cheese here and it’s melted all over the place. It’s overflowing and bubbling over the skillet and at one point I didn’t think I even had an noodles in some of my bites. Definitely get this to share with the table or prepare to have orders remorse and stare it down. This spot is ideal to go to after a day of shopping around Bloomingdales or Fifth Avenue when you need a break to refuel. You can always count on good food, brunch and reliable service. The Smith is perfect for out of town guests, big groups, cute guys brunch and parents. The Murray Hill kids have been saved!
