Whatever preconceived ideas you have about the Kardashian infused and Meatpacking hot spot, Sugar Factory, I command you to throw them out the window now. This sugar mecca might have candy cocktails, massive desserts, and a private room with your very own walls made out of candy bins, but the savory food is surprisingly delicious! I will admit, I might have turned my nose up at the Ocean Blue Cocktail with a giant blue whale (?) gummy worm, but when the goblet hit the table, and the straw hit me in the face, I actually enjoyed every sip. I couldn’t stop drinking this blue concoction, and it actually wasn’t as sweet as you’d imagine. The Peanut Butter Cup Martini, on the other hand, is more of a dessert drink but still thin enough to drink before dinner.
Onto the carbs. The Jalapeno Burger has just the right amount of spice, and the doughy brioche bun mixes well with the juicy patty cooked medium rare. It’s topped with melted cheddar cheese and crispy bacon. I definitely recommend this for a comfort, savory dish. For something lighter, go for the Salmon Salad which is shredded romaine lettuce, Atlantic salmon, roasted red peppers, diced avocado, mango, and a sherry vinaigrette. The mango and carefully poached fish makes this salad on par. Other dinner options include: Meatballs, Tuscan Tuna Salad, Bolognese Rigatoni, Grilled Chicken Sandwich, Savory Crepes, and Chicken Paillard.

Now when you’re ready for the main event, aka my favorite part of any meal, you have your choice between several kinds of cakes, pies, chocolate fondues, and gourmet ice cream sandwiches. The Brownie Ice Cream Sandwich is always my go-to because you get the best of both worlds: chocolate and ice cream. These gooey, fudgey brownies are laced with vanilla ice cream and rolled in candied walnuts with hot fudge. Just when you think you have no space left, you can immediately find some wiggle room. The Milkshakes are also delicious and very thin. They aren’t your typical thick, soda fountain style shake, and the Red Velvet goes down smooth with bits of red velvet cake in the mix.
What blew my mind most this evening, was not only that the staff is so caring and conscientious to make sure everyone is smiling during the whole experience, but that the King Kong Sundae which is made up of 24 scoops of ice cream was rushed out to the table with sparklers similar to a bottle of vodka at the Boom Boom Room across the street. (For the record, this sundae is worth more for your money). It can probably feed the whole top floor of the restaurant and after 30 minutes, we shockingly, barely put a dent in it. For $99 it feeds 12 or more and is covered in hot fudge, caramel, strawberry sauce, banana, marshmallows, Reese’s (I think I missed those), chocolate chip cookies, crushed waffle cones, gummi bears (they freeze!), white chocolate strawberry shavings, walnuts, whipped cream, AND lollipops. The Sugar Factory really takes it to the next level, and they bring the taste of food up there with them. This is a great place for a girl’s night out or a fun way to mix up your traditional celebration.
