Saxon + Parole (the old Double Crown) which just underwent renovations whipping out a new name and refreshed menu reopened back in September. Looks like a little cleanup and new menu can really help around here as this place is buzzing all over the place and super popular. The history of the name comes from two winning race horses from the 2oth century. The circular lights hanging over the bar create an uplifting and inviting atmosphere, and I recommend sitting here if you are solo or with one other person. Otherwise, the rest of the restaurant is gorgeous and separated into several different dining rooms with sleek wooden walls and even a cozy wine cellar downstairs. It’s decorated so well it could be featured in some type of home magazine, and I love the branded Saxon + Parole bourbon bottles lining the shelves in the main room. In addition, the restaurant offers a whiskey trolly similar to bottle service (photo below).

You can’t come here without ordering the salmon tartare. It’s unbelievably fresh with little to none mayo and beats almost any sushi restaurant. Skip the mussels they are too fishy. The brussels sprouts almost knocked us off our bar stools as they are sweet and spicy. They are so outrageous I’d order two of these next time – one for my dinner and one for dessert. This restaurant is adding to all of the  new and fabulous establishments on Bowery this year. Stop by Saxon + Parole for a drink or a casual yet intimate date – just make sure to make a reservation.

P.S. Just wait until you try the foie gras butter that comes with your bread!
