Ruby’s is a cute little cafe on Mulberry Street populated by Australian folk and staff. They even have a sign framed that says “mate” and you’ll overhear guests asking for some vegemite to go on their toast. They serve breakfast everyday until 1 p.m. such as weetibix, egg sandwich, muesli and the avocado toast on seven grain looks bangin’. On the weekends for brunch you can snag a table pretty easily before noon and after that the place fills up all 5 of the wooden benches pretty quickly but it doesn’t seem like people have to wait to long to be seated. The tables are used as communal tables as well and when it’s nice out the window is open. The kitchen is the smallest thing I’ve ever seen in my life. I don’t know how the chef fits in there.
The menu maybe have an Australian influence, but it’s pretty craveable and American cut with salads, sandwiches, pastas and burgers. The Pumpkin Salad with Roasted Pumpkin, Baby Spinach, Goats Cheese, Pine Nuts, Caramelized Balsamic dressing and def add that chicken for $2.50. This sweetly flavored salad is so good, I came two days in a row just for it. The chicken is grilled yet blackened and the pumpkin is soft and delicious. The light balsamic touch is an excellent addition and this makes for a great brunch or Sunday night take out treat. The ciabatta bread on the egg sandwich is very soft and unlike most hard ciabatta loaves so it mixes well with the eggs. Ruby’s is cash only, very cozy and a great casual spot to break bread over. Stroll on in. Mulberry Street’s the greatest.
