Sometimes you want Mexican food, sometimes you want BBQ, and sometimes you just wish you lived in Texas. Mexicue delivers all of these cravings for you in a casual atmosphere that’s a step above Chipotle. That being said, yes, Mexicue can replace your everyday Chipotle lunches. They even offer (gasp) KALE in their bowls and burnt ends in their burritios. The large menu appeals to all phases of cravings. You can start off with some House Green Chili Queso or Guacamole or share some Mexican Street Corn, Nachos, and Cornbread. As I said it just seems that they have everything you could possibly craving from healthy to indulgent. I tried my hardest to skip the Green Chili Mac & Cheese and mid-meal I threw an order in last minute. I’m not exaggerating when I say this salsa verde, cheddar, manchego and cotija concoction changed my life and macaroni and cheese game all within ten seconds. It’s cheesy, creamy enough that it’s still thick, and that spice, man, it’s a killer and a perfect kick. If you are every craving Mac ‘n Cheese, step on up and get this guy to-go. It’s real.
The overwhelming menu challenges you to really decide what you are in the mood for whether it be Salad (they are huge), Bowls, Burritos, Tacos, Plates such as Grilled Shrimp and Grits, Smoky Carnitas, Chili Crusted Pork Ribs, Smoked Chicken Enchiladas, Spicy Brisket Enchiladas, etc. The Shareable Sides game is on point and on trend– Quinoa with shaved corn, Roasted Green Beans, Sweet Potatoes with Pepitas, Spicy Mushrooms with corn salsa, Chipotle Cheddar Mashers and Brussels Sprouts.
Kale & Brussels Sprouts Salad
I loved the Kale & Brussels Sprouts Salad which comes with sweet potatoes, pico de gallo, pepitas, fresh corn, cotija cheese, and a chili citrus vinaigrette plus some added Smoked Chicken. The smokiness of the chicken makes the ‘Cue part come full circle. This salad has almost everything you could possibly want in a Mexican flavored salad and it’s big enough to have for two meals or share as long as you have some sides or starters to pair. The brussels taste very sweet and maple like which is a sweet surprise. Other add-ons for salads and bowls include: Pulled Pork, Shrooms, Cajun Shrimp, Blackened Fish, Avocado, or Fried Egg. The Blackened Fish Tacos are dressed for success with arugula, cabbage, citrus, pico, jalapeno aioli, and watermelon relish. You can’t go wrong at Mexicue. When you need those smoky flavors, this spot has your back. It’s also fast and easy, so when you need a place to get together with a group of friends for lunch or a Monday night dinner (they don’t joke around with the tequila list) I’d recommend you take make a visit.
P.S. Mexicue also has a Times Square location and a Take Out Shop at 29th and 7th Ave.
