Lula’s Sweet Apothecary

Lula’s is that cute neighborhood, old school ice cream parlor that you wouldn’t expect to find in the East Village. The twist is that everything is natural, non-dairy and vegan. The flavors change regularly but your favorites will still be there in some form or another whether its Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip or Peanut Butter Fudge. Other ice cream options include: Cake Batter, Mint Chip, Strawberry, Chocolate, Cookies ‘n Cream, Pumpkin (seasonal), Mocha, etc. and toppings are: Gummy Bears, Graham Crackers, Nuts, Chocolate Chips, Malt Powder, etc. You can really get anything from ice cream floats, soft serve flurries, sundaes, brownie a la mode to egg creams.

Don’t worry, the fact that it’s vegan doesn’t mean that it shorts you on taste at all. It’s not as creamy and a little bit icier, but it’s awesome. I think the peanut butter and coffee have the strongest flavor compared to something like vanilla. The caramel tastes a little distant but is still good with fudge. It’s very light and doesn’t feel as heavy as a typical gelato shop or Ben Jerry’s carton. You actually feel good after eating it instead of large and in charge. If you want to go big, try the Classic Hot Fudge Sundae which comes with a few scoops of ice cream, salted peanuts, hot fudge, whipped cream and a cherry. This monster cup will be sure to make you feel special. The brownie is a bit dry so I’d skip the brownie a la mode even though it looks delicious. The place is so mom and pop and vintage looking and the line can extend out the door. Don’t miss Lula’s Sweet Apothecary for an after dinner treat!
