Hampton’s Chutney Company

Hampton’s Chutney Company is a solid drop-in, to-go, lunch or quick dinner spot in SoHo. It first opened in the Hampton’s (Amagansett) and serves dosas which are a large, crispy sourdough crepe. These things are enormous, light and flaky. Don’t be afraid of it’s size because due to the airy texture it’s not overwhelmingly filling and it’s only 189 calories for one -just saying. There are an unlimited amount of  chicken, tuna, turkey  and vegetarian dosa options such as: Grilled Chicken with Goat Cheese, Spinach and Roasted Tomato; Roasted Butternut Squash, Roasted Beets and Goat Cheese; Roasted Tomato, Arugula & Cheese. In addition, the dosas are gluten free and come with a choice of fresh seasonal chutneys. Get over there soon and you can get the seasonal pumpkin which is subtle and delicious. Other flavors include cilantro, curry, mango, tomato and peanut. The Grilled Chicken with Roasted Peppers, Roasted Onions & Arugula is pretty good, but I wish there was more chicken. However, it’s the turkey dosas and sandwiches that are most flavorful here. Although the restaurant is known for it’s immaculate dosas, the Smoked Turkey, Brie, Cucumber with Romain and Honey-Mustard sandwich is my favorite obviously. I got it on whole grain bread instead of black bread which is nuttier with great texture. The turkey is legit, smoky and a perfect portion. Hampton’s Chutney Company may be full of diners chomping on dosas, but you’ll see everyone is also drinking the Iced Chai. It’s fantastic, and once you have this, you’ll start popping in regularly to get these for your afternoon snack. They alos have other native Indian drinks such as Cardamom Coffee and Lassis. Hampton’s Chutney is a great, casual and alternative spot for lunch, for tourists and locals to take a break from fighting the crowds on Broadway. Also, when you don’t want to wait hours for brunch at Delicatessen or Back Forty West nearby just tuck inside here.
