Great Jones Cafe

Sometimes you just need a Southern, New Orleans style brunch with spices, grits, biscuits and cornbread. Great Jones Cafe on Bowery has just that from dishes like Eggs Jambalaya, Crescent City Smothered Eggs, Huevos Rancheros and Buttermilk Pancakes that all come with your choice of bread, homefries/grits and coffee, tea or juice for one price $12.95. Talk about making brunch bills easy.

I really like the vibe in here. There is a juke box immediately to the right of the door, the ceilings are low, there are colorful strings of lights over the bar and on the back wall. It feels like a tame party in here. It would be fun to stop in here for a drink one night- seems like you could make it your neighborhood bar or nightcap. One wall has the burger portion of the menu painted in large black letters which is positioned next to the chalk board with the daily brunch specials. I walked in on a Sunday for a party of two around 12:30 and there was no wait. I ordered the Eggs Jambalaya composed of Smoked Sausage (turkey available), tomato, onions, rice and cajun spices and it really didn’t kick it for me. I think the eggs were cooked a little too hard, and it wasn’t spicy enough. Luckily my friend liked mine better and I liked her Eggs Tulum with scrambled eggs, cheddar cheese and wrapped in a flour tortilla with black bean salsa. Breakfast tacos? Obviously! This is awesome and a great taste of Texas. Pick the biscuit over the cornbread (it’s dry-4th pic ). If you get the grits ask for some extra cheese to go on top.

Great Jones Cafe has so much personality which makes it a special brunch spot. It’s not loud or too crowded to where you feel like you are being pushed out. You can stay all day and sip on that coffee and talk about your hangover if you like. Definitely check this place out.
