Now that The Whitney’s gorgeous building and American art has taken over the Meatpacking District, you might finally notice that this popular Southern Tribeca staple has moved north. It feels like a much bigger space and like it might be easier to get a seat since there are so many other brunch spots to flock to in the air in comparison with the downtown location. One major tip for you: snag two seats at the bar and your wait time is minimized to zero. They have the same style menu with your favorite Banana Walnut Pancakes, Buttermilk Biscuits, Omelettes, etc. The biscuits have changed a bit in the past years, but luckily they are still “bready,” buttery, carby and above basic. Grab some of their fruity jam and you’ve got yourself a great little appetizer or jam sandwich to brighten that morning. We started with what one might call an “odd” order at this southern kitchen- the Kale Salad. Mixed with grapefruit, pine nuts, farro, raisins, ricotta salata, apple cider vinegar and some added Smoked Salmon, it is a great way to prep the stomach for what could end in some of their famous pie or an ice cream sundae.
The salad is great. Nothing you haven’t had before, but loads of exciting treats than just lettuce and dressing. Adding the smoked salmon was a fun little morning treat as well. We also tried the Omelette of the Day with leeks, asparagus, parmesan. The biscuit seemed to overtake the excitement on this plate. However, other egg options include: Huevos Rancheros, Eggs Benedict, Bubby’s Bacon, Egg & Cheese – which is amazing because it’s made with burrata, baacon, sunnyside up eggs, scallions, smashed cornbread, ricotta salata and sweet and spicy sauce. Bubby’s has great window seats for this popping neighborhood people watching and the lighting is stellar for daytime.

It’s pretty hard to miss the cute soda fountain in the back that offers an Invent Your Own Sundae, Sodas, Malts and Shake situation. Syrups range from Ginger to Raspberry and toppings encompass Brownie Crumbs and Chocolate Chip Cookie Crumbs. The pie party offers my summer favorite Strawberry Rhubarb and a fun Banoffee (Bananas, Toffee, Espresso, Brown Sugar, Whipped Cream, Graham Cracker Crust). If you say no to brunch waits and you have a bigger party than two, put your name on the list and take a stroll around the museum or even up on the highlight. Make some room for these comforting sweets.
