Best Restaurants for Group Dining in NYC

My biggest challenge at being the go-to restaurant guru for my friends is the large party, birthday group or going away party drama. No, there is rarely a good dining spot that can fit 20 of your friends last minute, without a private dining room fee or without a demanding prix-fixe menu. However, I’ve put together a list of restaurants that are ideal for group dining and a range of cuisines from BBQ, sushi, pizza, Cuban, Italian and American.

  1. Blue Ribbon Sushi Izakaya at Thompson LES: Never hard to get a seat or a reservation. I don’t think people know it exists.
  2. Cuba (West Village): Huge dining room upstairs and downstairs with long tables
  3. Pig & Khao (Lower East Side): All you can drink beer in red solo cups and a family style dinner for only $55? This screams seamless group dinner. Don’t miss the sizzling sisig with pork head and egg or the halo halo.
  4. Aria Wine Bar (West Village): Affordable, comfort Italian and offers a private room downstairs with a reasonable prix-fixe
  5. 11 B (East Village): My favorite pizza, my favorite owner and it’s BYOB. Win win!
  6. Lil’ Frankies (East Village): Always reliable pizza and pasta and cute back garden
  7. Hill Country BBQ (Chelsea): Counter service, great moist brisket and huge room downstairs that is easily reservable. Don’t miss the Blue Bell Ice Cream.
  8. Rubirosa (Nolita): Another great Italian spot with room for all of you.
  9. Dinosaur BBQ (Brooklyn and Harlem): A cheap BBQ flood will keep your stomach and wallet happy (2nd pic- ribs).
  10. Rogue & Canon (SoHo): Lovely peanut butter burger and a big enough space for your friends and for those who want to watch a game (3rd pic).
  11. The Smith (East Village, Lincoln Center, Midtown): Easy, accommodating and food for everyone- mac ‘n cheese and grits are a part of everyone’s dreams.
  12. Gemma (Bowery): Really cool vibe and decor and there is a back room that can be closed off.
  13. Han Dynasty (East Village): Tasting menus begin at $25 pp here for parties of 8  or more. It’s also your only way in getting a reservation.
  14. Tortilla Flats (West Village): This will always hold a place in my heart. Streamers, queso, trivia contests, free tequila shots and an amazing New Mexican Short Stack. $60 for queso, entree, all you can drink, tax and gratuity already included. Just bring ya dolla bills y’all.
